Anwilka Vineyards Red Blend has gained the a estate a worldwide reputation which has been described by Robert Parker as “the finest red wine I have ever had from South Africa”. Bright and deep ruby in appearance. An upfront nose displays aromas of red fruit and cherries with toasted spices. The palate is fresh and vibrant on entry with a balanced acidity, supple tannins and elegant texture.
Anwilka Vineyards is located just 7 kilometres from the ocean in Stellenbosch’s prime Helderberg region. The significant maritime influence in the region nables exceptional fruit quality, the matching of grape varieties to specific sites was carefully considered. The property was purchased in the late 1990s and extensive replanting of 40 hectares of vineyards comprising primarily cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and some merlot followed. Anwilka has since established a worldwide reputation for their eponymous 2005 maiden vintage blend of Syrah-Cabernet, described by Robert Parker as “the finest red wine I have ever had from South Africa”.
