Description
Benefitting from cool afternoons and evening breezes, the otherwise hot region of Lodi is known for its old vine zinfandels, and the Predator Old Vine Zin 2019 a real corker. Aged in 75% French and 25% American oak, this is an intense and full-bodied wine with aromas of dark fruits like black cherry and blackberry, with spicy notes from that time in barrel. On the palate, the tannins linger over a long, smoky finish.
Predator is a premium wine brand, based in California, that pays homage to the ladybird – also known as the farmer’s friend. It is thought that ladybirds on vines are a sign of a healthy vineyard and they also play an important role in sustainable farming practices as they rid the area of crop-damaging aphids, mealybugs, and other destructive pests. This of course eliminates the need for spraying synthetic pesticides. Predator is owned by the Zaninovich family who have been farming in California since the 1930’s. They produce wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
