Description
Castelgiocondo, formed around an ancient castle built in 1100, was one of the first estates to produce Brunello in the 19th century. The vineyards are located in the Montalcino hills between 800 and 1400ft above sea level, 25 miles inland from the sea. This wine, produced from just Sangiovese grapes, was matured for 4yrs before release, of which at least 2 were in oak.
It has pronounced aromas and flavours of red fruit, spice, sandalwood, mint, earth and savoury, meaty hints. Quite full bodied and powerful with smooth, rounded tannins. A dense, warm, full-flavoured and complex Brunello with leather and earthy, savoury notes combined with violets and toasted coffee.
