Description
Named after the Celtic word for ‘stones’, the Perinet Likka 2018 is aged for 12 months in neutral French oak to build a rounded mouthfeel. On the nose, expect aromas of tobacco, smoked wood, raisins, blackberry liqueur and strawberry jam. The palate is fresh and friendly with noticeable earthy notes and fresh acidity from the llicorella slate soils on which the vines are grown.
The Perinet estate consists of three separate vineyard plots, each with a distinct microclimate, within the ancient Priorat region. The personalities of each vineyard are reflected in the grapes; warm and fruit-forward in Mas Vell, fresh and vibrant in Mas del Xes, and spice-laden in Pendents. Traditional varieties Garnacha and Carignan are planted amongst international varieties Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Vines are grown on llicorella soils that are unique to the Priorat DOQ, in conditions where other plants struggle to grow, their roots having to dig deep in search of water and nutrients. Perinet is a modern winery in a very traditional region – different varieties, wines and techniques make Perinet a place where the past meets the future.
