Description
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (13%) and Petit Verdot (5%), the Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore 2020 spends 18 months in oak barrels – 70% of which are new – and a further 12 months in bottle before release. This vintage has its usual deep ruby colour, with red fruits, delicate vanilla and gentle tobacco on the nose. The palate is rounded and velvety with dense yet elegant tannins and a long savoury finish.
Established in 1981 and owned by the Frescobaldi family, the Ornellaia estate sits in one of the most exciting wine regions in the world – the Super Tuscan territory of Bolgheri. Their vineyards are made up of money small parcels, each receiving individualised care to ensure the expression of their unique character. In the past, the areas on which the vines now grow were covered by the Mediterranean Sea, which has left behind sand, marl and marine fossils. The vineyards planted at higher altitudes are planted on clay with limestone pebbles. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the main varieties, followed by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, whilst Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Viognier, Verdicchio and Vermentino are used to produce white wines.
