Description
Olivier Père & Fils Origine Brut Champagne is a beautiful light golden colour with coppery yellow highlights. Bubbles spread out across the glass as brilliant aromas of fragrant ripe apples and plum jam hit the nose. On the palate, honey and orange peel are prominent, whilst a baked sponge cake finish lingers in the mouth. Majority Pinot Meunier (80%) with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (10% each) completing the trio.
Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are planted on perfectly steep, south-facing slopes with calcareous clay soils. Located in the commune of Trelou, the vineyard lies along the banks of the River Marne. The vines are around 35 years old and produce grapes of high quality and maturity. The history of this vineyard dates back to 1910 when Jules Olivier started out with just 1.5 hectares. It was not until 1968 that the first champagne was made by Jean-Claude, grandson of Jules. Olivier Pere et Fils is now run by Jean-Claudes’ two sons, Julien and Bertrand. The plot size today is 11 hectares, but the skills passed down through the generations means the champagne is as full-flavoured and elegant as ever.
