Muga – Reserva Tinto 2017 is black cherry red with garnet hues, aromas of red-fruit notes such as blackberries together with hints of fennel and scrubby heathland, all nicely balanced by the smoked aromas from the time spent in medium-toasted wood. Underlying hints of vanilla pod coming through with coffee notes. Full mouth-feel with slightly mentholated nuances and white chocolate. The vanilla reappears and those red-berry fruit aromas we found on the nose persist, with an elegant acidity which makes the aftertaste long.
Muga always use the finest materials and are open to new techniques that provide greater quality without losing authenticity. To produce each of their wines, they opt for traditional procedures like natural fining. The only cellar in Spain with a master cooper and three in-house barrel-makers, Bodegas Muga owns 620 acres of vineyards but it also has control over 370 acres owned by vine growers in the area. The vineyards are located on the foot of the Montes Obarenses, within the area called Rioja Alta. The site climate is exceptional due to, on the one hand, the singular geography and orientation of the vines and on the other hand, the surrounding climates – Mediterranean, Atlantic and Continental climates are combined harmoniously thus creating a perfect climate for grape growing.
Food matches: This wine will go wonderfully with meat dishes, such as veal, as well as Iberico charcuterie and casseroles.
