Description
Le Clos des Cazaux La Tour Sarrazine Gigondas is a deep but bright dark colour, like the Templiers, if slightly less opaque in the middle. Expansive warming red fruit tinged with garrigue and herbs, a hint of warm stone, sloe and kirsch add richness and dimension. Fascinating, generous and layered Gigondas. A perfectly aligned richness and freshness. Bold, yet there is something so moreish about this. There is a clear muscle to the wine but this well-knit into the fruit. Concentrated, complex and balanced. A stunning effort. An unoaked blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre from rocky, late-ripening parcels high up in the Dentelles de Montmirail.
The families Vache and Archimbaud have grown vines in the Vacqueyras area for 3 centuries. Gabriel Archimbaud participated in the process of the creation of the Côtes du Rhône appellation and he named his own domaine Clos des Cazaux. His granddaughter married Maurice Vache, her two sons Jean-Michel and Frédéric Vache run the domain today and is the 5th generation of pure vignerons. The brothers are meticulous, obsessively so, their hands on vine-growing and wine-making are resulting in impeccably pure, bright, soulful Southern Rhônes. Winemaking is designed to enhance the quality and purity of the fruit, élévage is uniquely in steel and concrete vat. These are some of the most consistently exciting, and underrated, wines in the Southern Rhône.
