Description
Le Clos des Cazaux Cuvée des Templiers Vacqueyras shows a little more red fruit than usual. Tightly-clenched hedgerow berry fruit, loganberry and raspberry mixed with bramble, infused with cracked black pepper and liquorice notes. This has great definition. Burly and with substance and grip yet with a softening touch of velvet too. A Syrah dominated blend whole bunch fermented then aged in large steel tanks.
The families Vache and Archimbaud have grown vines in the Vacqueyras area for 3 centuries. Gabriel Archimbaud participated in the process of the creation of the Côtes du Rhône appellation and he named his own domaine Clos des Cazaux. His granddaughter married Maurice Vache, her two sons Jean-Michel and Frédéric Vache run the domain today and is the 5th generation of pure vignerons. The brothers are meticulous, obsessively so, their hands on vine-growing and wine-making are resulting in impeccably pure, bright, soulful Southern Rhônes. Winemaking is designed to enhance the quality and purity of the fruit, élévage is uniquely in steel and concrete vat. These are some of the most consistently exciting, and underrated, wines in the Southern Rhône.
