Description
The Gosset Extra Brut is open and expressive, showing fresh flavours of apricot, white peach and white flower on the nose with undertones of hawthorn. On the palate, the citrus notes come through with precision and are balanced by the richness of peaches and Mirabelle’s. This wine is starting to express some mature aromas – a result of the three years it spent on its lees.
In 1584 Pierre Gosset, alderman of Aÿ and wine-grower, made still, mostly red wines from the grapes he harvested from his own vines. The reputation of the wine of Aÿ was such that François I had his own winery built there, which is now owned by Champagne Gosset. Champagne Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne, and it has been owned by the Renaud Cointreau family since 1993. Continued excellence is ensured by Odilon de Varine, Gosset’s cellar master. This cuvée is new to the range and was made as an aperitif. This is the only wine made at Gosset to undergo malolactic fermentation.
Food Pairing: Perfect aperitif wine or serve as a partner with sweet and sour dishes such as roast pork and apple sauce, or chicken with cashew nuts.
