Description
Aged for five years before it is released, the CastelGiocondo 2018 is an intense shade of ruby in the glass. On the nose, blueberry and blackberry are flanked by blackcurrant, violet and rose, followed by spicy pepper, cardamom and liquorice. The palate is particularly well-balanced, with dense tannins and excellent length. This wine will age beautifully.
Located to the south-west of Montalcino, Frescobaldi’s Tenuta CastelGiocondo sits at 300 metres altitude on an historic estate dating back to 1100. In 1800, the property became one of the first to ever produce Brunello di Montalcino – one of Italy’s finest wines. The vineyards of CastelGiocondo are spread over an area of 150 hectares and are planted to Sangiovese and Merlot, producing four reds and a grappa. Although the Frescobaldi family have been producing wine in the region since 1300, it was not until 1989 that CastelGiocondo came under their ownership.
