Description
Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘La Maltroie’ has a finely tuned nose, the 30% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is well balanced with good depth, honeycomb and orange rind, slightly waxy in texture towards the finish. Good extract here and fine length, this should drink well for 15-20 years.
One producer who expresses more than others the spirit of Chassagne-Montrachet. With pure, elegant wines that are always approachable in youth but have an incredible capacity of ageing and developing in the cellar for decades. Jean-Marc and Claudine Blain consistently produce some exemplary wines at village level and release some of the most sought-after Grand Crus from their tiny holdings of Caillerets.
