Description
From vines planted 935m above sea level, the Cristobal 1492 Malbec spends 5 months in a combination of concrete tanks and both French and American oak barrels. An intense, bright violet in appearance, the nose presents elegant aromas of black fruits, vanilla and coffee. The palate is well-balanced with soft, sweet tannins.
Founded in 1998, Don Cristobal’s four vineyards are located around Mendoza City; the winery is just 39km to the south of the city. Their vineyard area covers 145 hectares and the altitude ranges from 620 to 935 metres above sea level. The Malbec vines are planted at higher altitudes, where there is a larger diurnal range, to allow for a more gradual ripening of the fruit. The resulting wines have fresher acidity, greater depth of flavour, and an increased ageing potential. The winery itself is very high tech with modern temperature control facilities, built in 2008 and located in the El Remanso vineyard at Ugarteche, just off National Route 40. The cellar has a capacity of 2,200,000 litres including epoxy-coated concrete tanks, stainless steel tanks and both French and American oak barrels.
