Description

Aged for 24 months in French oak barrels before bottling, the Domaine de Trévallon Rouge 2019 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah. An intense red with purple hints in the glass, the nose is powerful and beautifully elegant with ripe red and black fruit, white pepper and liquorice. The palate is smooth with refined tannins, freshness and a lovely long finish.

Just a short distance from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, on the north side of the Alpilles, is the Domaine de Trévallon, situated in the village of Saint-Etienne-du-Grès. Around the old farmhouse, the vineyards spread out over 13-hectares of vibrant, protected countryside. Eloi Dürrbach planted his first vines in the Alpilles in 1973, with equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and 2-hectares of mostly Marsanne and Roussanne. The former used to exist in Provence before phylloxera arrived in the mid-19th century – when blended with Syrah it would produce excellent wines. Eloi chooses to declassify his wines to Vin de Pays, so as not to betray the personality of his wines.
