Description
The Clos Maria Blanco 2018 spends 12 months in stainless steel tanks and a further 24 months in bottle prior to its release. It is a light gold colour in the glass with complex floral aromas of violet and geranium as well as peach, pear syrup and toasted hazelnuts. The palate is elegant, velvety and delicate with honeyed notes on the long, intense finish.
Located in the Montsant DO that encircles Priorat in Spain’s Catalunya region, Clos Maria is a 230-hectare estate with 10 hectares under vine. There are over 50,000 vines planted at Clos Maria, including white varieties like Garnacha Blanca, Viognier, Muscat d’Alexandria, Chenin Blanc and red varieties such as Garnacha, Syrah, Carinena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, and even some Tannat, Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Carmenere. Both red and white grapes are planted on the unique llicorella slate soils that the area is famous for, adding a wonderful mineral-texture and complexity to the wines. The winery produces around 25,000 bottles per year and currently they make three wines.
