Description
Château Rouget 2019 is deep ruby in colour with a bouquet of black fruit, followed by sweet spice. It shows great freshness and finesse through purity of fruit and elegant tannins. A Merlot (80%) dominant blend complemented with Cabernet Franc (20%), this is a lively wine that will reveal more with every sip. Vines are planted with exceptional exposure and grown on gravel and clay soils, while grapes are picked by hand to ensure optimum ripeness. Full-bodied with a long finish, this is a great vintage for Rouget.
Located in Northeast Bordeaux, Pomerol is one of the smallest appellations in the region, as well as being one of the most sought-after in the world. Merlot is the dominant grape variety here, producing velvety, approachable wines with great ageing potential. The history of Château Rouget dates all the way back to the end of the Roman Empire, and to this day is considered as one of the leaders of the Right Bank. Since 1992, Château Rouget has been in the passionate hands of the Labruyere family. Originally from Beaujolais, the family have owned a winery in Moulin-a-Vent since 1850. Son, Edouard, now runs Rouget with the help of estate manager, Antoine Riberio, and his talented team. Located near Petrus, Le Gay and Eglise-Clinet, the vineyards of Château Rouget are planted to 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The soils are composed of clay and gravel with a desirable iron-rich subsoil. The average age of the vines is 40 years old, resulting in wines of great complexity.
