Description
Château Mirausse L’Azerolle Vieilles Vignes is pure Carignan from fifty year old vines, sinewy yet supple, brambly and fruity with a most agreeable iron-earthiness. Awarded four stars by Decanter who described it as “modern style but well done”, this is a wine that commands attention.
Château Mirausse was founded in the thirteenth century and is now run by Raymond Julien who has been producing quality wines in the region for the past 20 years. The gently sloping vineyards are nestled between pine, olive and almond trees. These are bright modern wines with a distinctly Mediterranean personality. Located in the village of Badens to the east of Carcassonne in the Minervois region of the Languedoc, Raymond Julien is a grower to watch. He farms 13 hectares of vines grown on chalky soils and specialises in the Carignan grape from old vines.
