Description
Third Classified Growth of 1855, perfectly balanced, the Grand Vin of Château Lagrange reflects the ultimate harmony between the three grape varieties cultivated here, with a strong predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. Vinified from the oldest vines of the estate, then aged for twenty-one months in half-new barrels, it shows the concentration and ageing potential of a great wine. Already powerful and brilliant in its youth, a slow and serene evolution will bring out a delicacy expressed by the precision of flavours. Situated in the village of Saint Julien, the vineyard of Chateau Lagrange represents 118 hectares in red vines, spread over two hills with the slopes directed towards the North and the South, in one block. The subsoil is of clay and limestone and the topsoil is of pebbles and gravel. The climate is temperate and oceanic. Maturation for 21 months 50 % of new oak barrels. Dark red colour with a crimson tint. Aromatic notes of red fruit, such as strawberry or raspberry. The attack is supple and fleshy. With 84% of
Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, the tannic structure is powerful yet elegant. The harmony that reigns throughout promises a large drinking window.
The Château Lagrange estate, Third Classified Growth in 1855, first planted with vines at the beginning of the 16th century, extends in one single block at the west of the appellations. Forty hectares of gardens and woodlands are added to the vineyard, along with a beautiful lake, offering an outstanding natural heritage. Saint-Julien, the smallest of the four Médoc communal appellations at just 6% of this terroir but with an exceptional concentration of classified growths, is incontestably the heart of the Médoc. Driven by four centuries of Medoc history and stimulated by the vision of uncompromised quality promoted by its Japanese owners since 1983, Château Lagrange has been able to adapt tradition and embrace innovation in order to express its terroir -unchanged since 1855- with the highest precision, raising each parcel and each vintage to its best, for great, expressive, and harmonious wines.
