Description
From a fine vintage in Pomerol, the Château La Pointe 2020 is looking splendid. It has an intense purple hue and deep ruby core with aromas of fresh wild berries, floral notes of violet, and spicy notes of black pepper and sandalwood. The palate is opulent and elegant – this may be the best vintage of La Pointe to date. There is great balance in this wine and the pure, smooth finish is a real treat.
The vineyard area of Château La Pointe spans 23 hectares, all within a single plot, and from this they are able to produce around 120,000 bottles per year. The estate is one of the five largest within the Pomerol appellation, one of the most prestigious in all of Bordeaux. This is an estate that is very clearly on the up, thanks to current general manager Eric Monneret’s dedication to improvements in the vineyard. Also involved in the winemaking process is Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, co-owner of Chateau Angelus. The grapes of Château La Pointe are harvested by hand and vinified in temperature-controlled vats, the wines are then aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 12 months, and can be cellared for between 10 to 20 years from vintage.
