Description
La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the biggest guns in Bordeaux. Based in Pessac Leognan on the Left Bank, this is a collectors wine that will continue to improve with years to come.
La Mission Haut-Brion is frequently regarded as the equal of sister-estate – Chateau Haut Brion and in some years even better. La Mission’s production levels are now smaller than ever and, more than ever, it can be seen as an ‘honorary’ First Growth. There are normally around 5000 cases produced annually.
La Mission Haut-Brion 2018 is another wine very well regarded by the critics in this vintage. 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck, 97 points from our benchmark critic Neal Martin – and also scored well from Lisa Perrotti Brown, who comments;
"La Mission Haut-Brion is composed of 56% Merlot, 4.4% Cabernet Franc and 39.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 La Mission Haut-Brion is a little reticent on the nose to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of crushed blackcurrants, Black Forest cake and Morello cherries with suggestions of cigar box, pencil shavings, charcoal and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic intensity with loads of mineral layers and a rock-solid line of firm, grainy tannins, finishing very long and with great energy. Drink 2023-2057. 96+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate (March 2020)"
La Mission Haut-Brion is a super wine to have in your collection.
