Description
From organically grown vineyards, La Lagune 2020 spends 14 months in oak barrels before bottling. The aromas are of dark fruits, blackcurrant, black cherries and cassis, but there is incredible precision and purity of fruit. The palate is elegant, fine and fresh with silky tannins. This is a wine that can be enjoyed with pleasure now but will also cellar fantastically.
Chateau La Lagune is a classified third growth that has been improving year on year since Caroline Frey and her family took over the estate in 1999. The history of the estate dates to the 17th century – when the Dutch were draining the marshes of Bordeaux to reveal those famous gravelly soils – with construction to the stunning chateau completing in 1734. Today, the 85 hectares of vineyard are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot, with an average vine age of 40 years. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2016. Not only are the wines of La Lagune incredibly age-worthy, they also offer excellent value – one of the reasons they are so popular with consumers.
Food matches: As well as the usual beef, lamb, duck recommendations, this wine is also great with Asian dishes, tuna steak, and mushroom pasta.
