Established in 1852, Murrieta is one of the oldest and most respected bodegas in Rioja Alta. Their wines are concentrated and long-lived and some, like “Castillo Ygay”, have become legendary amongst wine-lovers. Marqués de Murrieta has not stood back and stagnated however; their 300-hectare estate produces Dalmau – a blend which represents an avant-garde expression of their terroir.
Grapes are first carefully crushed and after a short skin contact, they are gently pressed in a vertical press. This is a gentle and slow process that favours the extraction of all the aromatic potential from our low-yield Viura grapes. The juice is then settled and fermented in a temperature-controlled stainless-steel tank for 24 days. 15 months in 225-litre new French oak barrels, bottled May 2019.
Complex aromas of quince, pear, fresh almonds and toasted notes combine with a distinct salinity. Powerful, elegant and fresh on the palate with great acidity. A touch of creaminess, with camomile, dried apricots and pears with just a touch of honey.
