Description
Benito Ferrara Terre d’Uva Greco di Tufo is a pale gold in the glass. On the nose, scents of tropical fruit and citrus with hints of apple. On the palate, medium-bodied yet soft with a minerally acidity and smooth texture. The finish is redolent with bitter almond flavours. One of the great food wines.
The Ferrara family produces tiny amounts of stunning Greco di Tufo from three hectares of vines situated in San Paolo di Tufo in the heart of Campania, where they have been making wine since 1880. Ferrara’s vines are planted on steep volcanic slopes at 450-600 metres above sea level, where hand-harvesting is obligatory and where the sulphurous nature of the soil only serves to enhance the aromatic characteristics of the Greco di Tufo grape. Everything is organic at the farm and only a little sulphur and copper is used as the steady, light breezes help to reduce the threat of mould and other predators.
Food matches: Try with a Neapolitan pizza fritta, pan-fried calamari with lemon and pangrattato or grilled swordfish steak with a garlic, mint and oregano salsa.
