Description
The chardonnay grapes that go into Arzuaga’s Fan D.Oro are hand-harvested and lightly pressed before fermentation takes place in 500 litre oak vats. Straw yellow with a golden edge in the glass, on the nose there is plenty of pastry, jasmine, fig and baked apple with a touch of dried fruit. An unctuous sensation on the palate, this is a full-bodied white with fresh acidity to balance.
Located in Valladolid, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero DO, the Arzuaga Winery has 210 hectares of vineyard planted to Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. 80% of the vineyards are more than 20 years old and the unique climate here – sunshine and clear skies during the day with cool, damp evenings – allows the grapes to ripen slowly, producing healthy fruit with plenty of colour, sugars and aromatic acidity. At Arzuaga’s vineyards, the natural flora and fauna coexist with the vines – pines, holm oaks and savin juniper grow alongside the grapes, whilst wild boars and red deer are left to roam the land. The coexistence highlights the love the Arzuaga family feel for the natural world. The family’s efforts in the vineyard and winery have earned them a fine reputation for producing quality wines from Ribera del Duero.
