Description
The vineyards of aptly named Ao Yun – ‘roaming above the clouds’ – are located between 2200-2600m above sea level. Grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring optimal ripeness. Notes of black fruit, liquorice and an earthiness on the nose, the palate is elegant and complex with soft tannins and a salty, mineral finish.
Ao Yun is run and owned by fine wine giant, Moët Hennessy. After four years of searching across China to find the ideal terroir to produce a red wine worthy of comparison with the world’s great wines, the perfect site was found in the north of the Yunnan province. Situated on the banks of the Mekong River, the region harbours fabulous potential for producing wine, a remote little corner of paradise nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, not far from the legendary city of Shangri-La. The first vintage was produced in 2013 and since then, Ao Yun has paved the way for high-end Chinese wines.
