The Vondeling vineyard is vased Voor-Paardeberg; a Western Cape wine region in South Africa that has all the charm of an undiscovered country landscape, yet is easily accessible, approximately 45 minutes’ drive from Cape Town.

The first vintage of Vondeling wines made from their own grapes was in 2005. There are approximately 100 hectares of vineyard, mostly planted to Mediterranean varietals. Most are planted in granitic soils and on cooler south west facing slopes.

There’s a 50/50 red to white varietal ratio with a distinctly Mediterranean slant when it comes to more recent plantings.

White wine varieties: Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Muscadel, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier.

Red wine varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Grenache Noir, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Shiraz. The area around Vondeling Wines is rich in indigenous fynbos and four species are unique to the Paardeberg mountain – Babiana noctiflora, Erica hippuris, Oscularia paardebergenis and Serruria roxberghii.

These are Rockstar wines across the board, that are winning awards left, right and centre. Definitely worth a try!
