Chateau Musar Masterclass
We had our second masterclass of the year last night – with the world famous Chateau Musar estate from Lebanon.
We were joined by Elliott O’Mara from Chateau Musar UK who gave us an interesting overview of the history of Musar, the family, the estate and the style of the wines – whilst we enjoyed 6 different wines from their range.
Firstly we tasted the 2017 Hochar Pere et Fils – this is loosely referred to as Musar’s second wine – that includes a little bit of Grenache in their blend, alongside the classic Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon that features across the premier Musar Range.
We then enjoyed a flight of Chateau Musar Red – firstly the 2012, that tasted similar to a primitivo actually, which is not particularly Musar like! This was followed by the 2005, that was well received. We were then treated to the 2002, then 1998, which were the stars of the show. 2002 is ‘Classic Musar’ – rich, elegant, smooth, notes of dried fruits and spice. The 1998 was like a fine old Burgundy – delicate, elegant, feminine. A fantastic couple of wines!
Last up was 2010 Chateau Musar White made by indigenous grape varieties Obaideh and Merwah. An interesting wine that was like drinking an old Chenin Blanc. A wine that would go very well with cheese. Definetely a wine for wine lovers that are interested in trying different styles of wine.
A very enjoyable evening – many thanks to all those who attended.
We look forward to our next masterclasses:
Frescobaldi Boardroom Masterclass – Tuesday 7th April
Pol Roger Boardroom Masterclass – Tuesday 19th May
